Xinyu Wang

Dr. Wang received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University in Beijing, China. He earned his Ph.D. in pharmaceutics from the University of Texas at Austin followed by postdoctoral training at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research at San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Wang joined PCOM School of Pharmacy in 2010 right before the start of its inaugural class. As a founding member, he is mainly involved in teaching pharmaceutics related courses including Biopharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Compounding, and Pharmaceutical Calculation. He devoted himself to the development of an effective and rigorous curriculum and focused on improving student learning outcome. He also mentors PharmD and Biomed Thesis students in research projects and guides them to present their research outcome at local and national scientific meetings. His effort in teaching is highly appreciated by PharmD students who chose him as Teacher of the Year in 2014.

Dr. Eric Wang’s research interest is focused on the drug discovery and development to identify potential candidates with anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties. He recently explored the inhibitory effects of compounds derived from natural sources on multiple myeloma, a plasma cell cancer characterized by the accumulation of malignant cells in bone marrow. His effort in multiple myeloma research was recognized, and he was recently named a 2016 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) New Investigator Award recipient. He has presented his research in various national and international conferences and published peer-reviewed articles in different pharmaceutical fields including medicinal chemistry, molecular pharmacology, pharmaceutical analysis, and pharmacokinetics.

Dr. Wang has served on many committees including curriculum, assessment, admissions, scholarship and awards, faculty development, faculty search, academic appeal, diversity and ACPE self-study. He participated in the ACPE accreditation process and contributed to the success of School of Pharmacy accreditation in 2014 and site visit in 2016.
