Family–peer relationships: A tripartite model

Abstract

This chapter discusses three modes by which parents may influence their children's peer relationships / first, parents are viewed as influencing their children's peer relationships indirectly through their childrearing practices and interactive styles / second, parents may influence their children's peer relationships directly in their role as a direct instructor or educator / [examine how] parents function as managers of their children's social lives . . . and serve as providers of opportunities for social contact with extra-familial social partners.
