Functional Assessment of the Movement System

While the profession of Physical Therapy has come to describe itself as the experts in the "Movement System," the ability to quantify this system remains at times elusive. In this educational session learners will gain understanding related to some of the validated tools for assessment of the movement system. The session will be primarily lecture-based with demonstrations of various functional tests and training techniques. The first half will consist of methods and rationale for the use of different tests and measures as well as interpretation of findings. Afterwards concepts for addressing deficits found will be discussed with several real-life patient vignettes from initial evaluation to post-assessment measures.

This presentation will be primarily focused for the outpatient setting, but information will be applicable across many practice realms. Use of tests and training methods across different patient populations will be addressed, including athletes, injured workers and general orthopedics.
