Translating quantitative sensory testing research to its pragmatic implications for manual therapy

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

While recent discussion of nociplasticity has gained traction within rehabilitation circles, the clinical measurement of such is challenging. Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) allows for a clinically relevant, albeit indirect, measure of nociplasticity. Additionally, the implications for the use of manual therapy with the patient who shows indications of nociplastic changes may at times be nebulous. While recent discussion of nociplasticity has gained traction within rehabilitation circles, the clinical measurement of such is challenging. Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) allows for a clinically relevant, albeit indirect, measure of nociplasticity. This session will not only describe the research findings, but also elucidate how to glean similar data in the clinic. Lastly, the presenter will "close the loop" by discussing implications for the use of manual therapy with the patient who shows indications of nociplastic changes.
